I was asked on another site about carpet cleaning. Here are my suggestions.
One way is a steam mop. It does not use chemicals. Just water! Many come with an attachment for carpet.
For stains use baking soda and peroxide. Test a small spot first for color issues. Also, if the stain is deep it may take several repetitions. However, one good thing is that the peroxide kills the microbes that many other cleaners will leave behind.
Wood floors-vinegar
All of these ideas are safe for babies, pets, and the environment.
